Elevate yourself and climb a mountain.
First there was Lava...
The first thing you want to do when you arrive at the base of Stone Mountain is put on your protective lava shoes. For you see lava is extremely hot and will burn the rubber right off the bottom of your hiking shoes. Okay that is what I thought after reading the history of the Stone Mountain. Come to find out that lava flow happened way before my time and yours to.
Stone mountain offers over 13,500 acres and has plenty of trails to keep you busy including the Stone Mountain Loop Trail of which I hiked all 4.5 miles of. For those who are looking for a bigger thrill try rock climbing up the face of this 600 ft. granite dome. Just make sure you have a valid permit and register before you go. I must have lost mine so I just enjoyed the couple climbers scaling the rock face from down below. I was told by a fellow rock climber that what I was watching wasn't as hard as it looked. Not sure I'm going to buy that one. I have a hard enough time keeping my feet on flat ground let alone trying to find proper footing on the side of a mountain.
